A boudoir session is a photography session where you wear sexy outfits, lingerie, dresses, or even go scantily clad and get your photographs taken for a number of reason but guess what, only YOU need to know the reason you have them done! the genre of Boudoir Photography refers to a style in which women pose for photographs partially clothed, in lingerie or naked. Professional Boudoir Photographers have seen it all, so it’s completely up to you and your comfort level how much clothing you’d like to wear. You do not have to be naked. The beauty of this process is that you are getting what you want out of the experience, talk to your photographer about your comfort levels, and the images you are wanting to perceive. You want this experience to be one that will empower you not cause you any trauma. Do I need to bring my own clothing?
Some of us do not have lingerie on hand, and that is okay. Although it is recommended that you bring your own wardrobe, you do not have too. Most professional boudoir photographers have a glam closet on site that you can go through and pick from. If you have lingerie of your own you want to make sure it does not fit you too snug and that you can move around comfortably. You do not want discomfort to be showing in your final portraits!
You may also be wondering if hair and make up are included with your package. The answer is yes, most places include this in with your cost. This is a good time to calm your nerves before the boudoir session. Relax and get comfortable with the staff and know that you are in good hands for this experience. Before you do your session go treat yourself get your nails done and get a spray tan if you wish, this will help you feel even more glam for the big day that will leave you feeling more than empowered!
Do I need to know how to pose and model?
Again, the answer to this one is no you do not. It is never a bad idea to practice some of the poses you have taken a liking too while you have been doing research. Just so you feel comfortable. Once you get in the studio and have built the trust and you are feeling comfortable and your hair and make up done, your inner model will come out and she will own the camera. Your photographer will take control and let you know what to do and how you need to move your body for the pose to capture the greatest boudoir image possible!
To answer a few more questions you may be having, do you use my photos online? The answer to this is NO! Not unless you give consent to do so, and the only reason your professional boudoir photographer would ever use your images would be for them to show their work to other potential clients. Some women are honored to have their imagery shared while others prefer their privacy. You will fill out and sign a Model Release agreement at your session which will blatantly state what you will/will not allow. Another tip, do not bring anyone with you to your session, it has been noted that if this happens you tend to get more conscious because someone is there that knows you and you feel like you cannot let lose and be yourself.
